New Canaan High School Service League of Boys

The mission of A Better Chance (ABC) of New Canaan is to offer students a range of opportunities including many that may not be available in their own communities.  The ABC House is a warm and supportive place for our scholars to live, learn, grow, and form lifelong friendships.  SLOBs assist with various projects during the year such as spring beautification of the property.

Blossom Hill supports organizations that engage and empower war-affected youth as leaders in the reconstruction of their lives and their communities.  SLOBs assist the organization with setting up and breaking down their fall and spring marketplace fundraising bazaars.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's goal is to provide the means to cure cystic fibrosis (CF) and ensure that those living with CF live long and productive lives. The Foundation provides information about cystic fibrosis and finances CF research that aims to improve the quality of life for people with the disease. SLOBs assist with their yearly walkathon.

The mission of the Carver Center is to help children and youth reach their greatest potential by providing educational, social and recreational programs in a positive, safe and fun environment. SLOBs has hosted a number of events for The Carver Center. All events were geared towards children, K-5.  SLOBs has participated in after-school sports and activities as well as STEM events.

The Domestic Violence Crisis Center assists women and children in need of refuge from domestic violence.  Slobs will assist with donation drives for diapers, children’s toys, and other needs.

For more than 75 years, FCA has been helping individuals and families throughout Fairfield County and beyond to realize life's possibilities. FCA increases the social and emotional well-being of its clients by providing strength-based, solution-focused services for every stage of life.  SLOBs collects new backpacks and school supplies for the new school year.

Filling in the Blanks fights childhood hunger by providing children in need with meals on the weekends. SLOBs help to pack these bags of food.

The Food Rescue US mission is to fight food insecurity and food waste.  SLOBs pick-up excess healthy food from local food donors and deliver it to local service agencies that feed the food insecure.

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.  SLOBs provide support during the annual cookie drive by unloading boxes of cookies from the delivery truck and loading the appropriate number of boxes of each cookie type into the scouts' cars as they drive through.

Inspirica is one of the largest providers of services to the homeless in CT.  Its mission is to break the cycle of homelessness by helping people achieve and maintain permanent housing and stability in their lives. SLOBs supports Inspirica by collecting food donations during its Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Midnight Run is a volunteer organization dedicated to finding common ground between the housed and the homeless. New Canaan Methodist Church coordinates Midnight Run relief missions several times a year, in which volunteers from SLOBs and other groups sort food, clothing, blankets and personal care items to be distributed to the homeless poor on the streets of New York City.

The New Canaan Scholarship Foundation provides need based scholarships to deserving NCHS graduating seniors each year. The NC Color Run is its only fundraiser.  SLOBs support the run by helping with set-up, filling bottles, manning water stations and color stations and post race clean-up.

SLOBs collect food donations for the NC Food Pantry from banquet attendees.

The New England Dance Theater’s mission is to engage in our community to increase access and awareness of dance and to foster a lifelong interest in the arts regardless of one’s age or ability to pay. We accomplish this goal through our funding of high-quality dance productions, community outreach programming and dancer enrichment opportunities. SLOBS help with set up and breakdown of the December Nutcracker performance by NEAD with profits going to NEDT.

The NCBL is a non-profit community service and educational organization in New Canaan, CT.   Founded in 1939 for the purpose of the beautification of the community and to provide members with an opportunity to increase their knowledge of gardening, conservation and horticulture.  The Beautification League has continued to dedicate itself to enhancing the beauty of New Canaan.  SLOBs help with the upkeep and beautification of Lee Garden.

New Canaan CARES is an independent non-profit community organization whose purpose is to advance the health and well-being of our youth and families. CARES provides responsive educational programs that support and strengthen parents skills, positive youth development, and healthy lifestyles.  

New Canaan Chamber of Commerce was incorporated in 1952 and is comprised of 350+ members and an executive board. It's mission statement is to connect the community with commerce. Their organization acts as an advocate and liaison between New Canaan's business, local non-profits, the municipality and residents. SLOBs assist the Chamber with preparations for the Holiday Stroll, set up and clean up, and the garlands on the lamp posts in town.

New Canaan Chamber Music Inc. is a non-profit organization established in October 2020 to perform world-class chamber music in New Canaan for audiences from far and wide. Led by Artistic Director and virtuoso pianist Andrew Armstrong with other premier musicians, we have performed well-attended concerts in New Canaan as well as a virtual Christmas Eve Concert (on YouTube at NCTV79, “Andrew Armstrong”) and done outreach programs with local schools, senior communities, and youth orchestras.

NCCF serves as New Canaan’s local partner for advice, leadership, and facilitation of charitable giving. Since 1977, the Foundation has invested in high-impact local organizations and has helped donors achieve their philanthropic goals. The Foundation achieves it's mission by partnering with community members to help each individual, family, or organization achieve their philanthropic goals, educating and support volunteer leaders of all ages to guide our work and help maximize impact in the community, mobilizing thoughtful grant investments and other resources to respond to local needs, and convening community leaders, experts, and residents to address community-wide issues that affect New Canaan. SLOBs assist with set up and breakdown of events during the year such as the annual meeting and the spring luncheon.  They also assist with special projects during the year as they arise.

The Exchange Club is a group of individuals who want to make our country and local communities a better place to live for everyone. The Club “exchanges” their time and talent through programs of service. SLOBs help the Club with their annual Christmas Tree and Wreath sale in Kiwanis Park.  SLOBs help set up the lot, unload the trees and sell the trees between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The New Canaan Farmers Market provides opportunities for local farmers and business owners to sell their goods to the townspeople.  The market is open every Saturday from late April through late November. SLOBs assist the volunteer coordinator at the close of the New Canaan Farmers Market by breaking down the cooling tents. The cooling tents, located in the center of the market provide relief to the shoppers during the warm weather.

The Food Pantry is run by New Canaan Human Services and is currently housed in St. Mark's church.  It is open every other Tuesday for both morning and evening distributions. SLOBS assist in stocking and organizing donations and help distribute the food to the clients.

Open-air seasonal ice rink for all ages Located at Waveny Park. SLOBS help run winter youth events.

The New Canaan Inn is an independent living residence for senior citizens.  SLOBs play bingo with the residents and help with clean up after the event.

The mission of the New Canaan Land Trust is to foster a connection between the New Canaan Community and its natural resources through the conservation and sustainable stewardship of our open space. SLOBs help with various projects such as removing invasive species on the properties, clearing trains and to helping to restore stone walls.

The mission of the New Canaan Library is to be an essential place for lifelong learning and a vibrant hub for knowledge, culture and connecting for New Canaan.  SLOBs help set up, organize and clean up after the fall literary lunch and spring edition events and help with other programs as needed through the year. 

The New Canaan Museum & Historical Society is a cultural institution that focuses on preservation, modernism, education and community. SLOBs will be helping young kids with lawn games during "History Day."

New Canaan Nature Center is a nonprofit environmental education organization whose goal is the respect, protection, & enjoyment of nature. SLOBs helps with the Center's annual Fall Fair. SLOBs collect tickets at the various activities, rides and games as well as help sell food items at the food tent.

The mission of New Canaan Parent Support Group is twofold: 1) to give support to parents with loved ones affected by addiction, and 2) to educate and raise awareness about substance abuse, addiction and recovery in our community. 

SLOBs helps by staffing various school events such as NCPS Stem Night and the South School Fall Family Picnic.

New Covenant Center provides nutritious meals to all those who are hungry.  SLOBs provides support by preparing and delivering sandwiches to the center from September through May.

Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom night experience for people with special needs ages 14 and older.  

Open Door's mission is to effectively address the causes and complexities of the homeless and working poor by providing shelter, food, clothing, case management services, treatment services, transitional planning for short and long term goals, subsidized housing, education, employment, and a path towards independence and success.

The New Canaan Turkey Trot, a 5K race through beautiful Waveny Park, supports Open Doors in Norwalk.  Organized by a volunteer committee of local students and families, this annual event raises funds and shines a light on Open Doors which strives to make a difference for people dealing with homelessness and food insecurity in our community.  SLOBs provide race day donations and help with racecourse monitoring, set up and clean up.

P2P is a community organization that provides basic needs for individuals and families in need.  SLOBs has participated in food drives and helped "Phil the Truck" at Walter Stewarts.  SLOBs handed out flyers, collected food and loaded the truck.
 

Planet New Canaan is an organization committed to bringing awareness about the environmental issues facing New Canaan and the broader world both today and in the future.  SLOBs provides support through various outdoor events such as Christmas tree recycling and the Mill Pond cleanup.

The centerpiece of Project Pink is the transformation of New Canaan’s iconic lampposts into vibrant symbols of support for breast cancer awareness. For a $100 donation, individuals can dedicate a lamppost to honor a loved one, remember someone lost to breast cancer, or simply express support for the cause. SLOBS decorate lampposts and take down decor a week or so later in October.

SLOBs help pack meals to be sent to hungry children around the world.

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief, and disaster preparedness education in the US.  SLOBs help with registration for blood donation drives throughout the year.

Rotary Club of New Canaan Lobsterfest takes place every year and is the club's annual fundraiser. Funds are distributed to local charities and organizations. SLOBs help to set up, serve food, shuck corn, clear trays and clean up.

SLOBs bring birthday cheer to residents celebrating a birthday.  Included are a small gift and personal visit.

Silver Hill is an independent, not-for-profit psychiatric hospital that is nationally accredited by the independent Joint Commission. Silver Hill has been a standout among the top psychiatric hospitals in Connecticut and beyond, for adults and adolescents, since it’s founding in 1931. SLOBS assist with fundraising walk in fall.

SAC is a community home for learning challenged adults.  SLOBs helps clean up the leaves in the fall at SAC and works with the residents to do the work and make it a fun experience for them. SLOBs also does a spring clean up and planting in their garden. 

Sports Buddies is a weekly recreational program for special needs kids. SLOBs provides volunteers for Fall Soccer, Winter Basketball, and Spring Sports. Volunteers come for an hour of sports and exercise on Saturday mornings 

Established in 2021, the Little Free Pantry seeks to assist those in food insecurity with an anonymous way of obtaining food basics and toiletry items. It is intended to be a supplement to food pantries, food banks, meal programs, and government assistance that are widely available throughout Stamford.

May Fair is the celebration of the St. Mark’s community reaching out to the Town of New Canaan, and other communities, not only on the day of the fair but all year long through our outreach programs funded by May Fair proceeds. SLOBs coordinate volunteers for moving books and furniture for the tag sale, setting up tents throughout the week leading up to the fair, shifts during the fair (always the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend), and clean up.

The Gospel Garden is on the property of St Mark's Church and is run by volunteers.  The Garden produces over 2,200 pounds of fresh produce for local food pantries.  SLOBs help out with projects in the garden.

The Mission of Staying Put is to give New Canaan seniors both the practical means and the social support to live their lives to the fullest, safely and confidently, in the New Canaan community. 

SLOBs help replace old flags with new flags at every veteran's gravestone in LakeView Cemetery each Memorial Day.

Waveny LifeCare Network provides a comprehensive continuum of healthcare to serve the changing needs of seniors from all areas. It offers a progression of therapeutic programs, services and living options to enhance quality of life for those it serves.

The Young Women's League of New Canaan is a service-based, social organization enriching Fairfield County through fundraising and volunteering efforts.
